Coming up is one of the best parts of Spring, Easter holiday. I have always loved remembering my Savior Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for me.
In honor of this upcoming holiday, our teacher, Professor Nielson, took a few minutes to tell us a spiritual experience he had.
A few years ago, Professor Nielson was diagnosed with cancer and was struggling to live. On a particular Saturday, a friend of Professor Nielson’s felt impressed to pray for Professor Nielson and his healthy and safety. The friend decided that he would contact him after he got off his shift of working at the temple. As the day wore on, Professor Nielson’s friend continued to feel impressed to contact Professor Nielson. When the day ended, Professor Nielson’s friend told everyone to pray for Professor Nielson and he would as well.
That friend continued to think of Professor Nielson throughout the day. As the day wore on, Professor Nielson’s friend felt stronger and stronger to pray for Professor Nielson. When the day ended, Professor Nielson’s friend left instruction for everyone he worked with at the temple to pray for Professor Nielson.
That Saturday night, Professor Nielson fell ill and was rushed to the hospital. That night, Professor Nielson fought for his life.
As Professor Nielson reminisced this experience, he told us of his own reflection of why his dear friend was impressed to pray for him. Questions arose in his heart like “Why was his friend prompted to pray for him?” “If God is almighty, why did he need the prayers of 60+ people for my welfare?”
Professor Nielson came to the conclusion that God must need our prayers. In some way, God relies on our prayers.
As I listened to this story, I came to the same conclusion of my teacher. If God was Almighty would he need us to pray? Couldn’t God do what He wanted? It seems as though the answers to my questions is no, God needs us to pray. He relies on us to pray to Him.
In honor of remembering Christ’s sacrifice this Easter holiday, I will improve my prayers to God. Of course, everything is according to God’s will and not mine, but it sounds like God needs my prayers.
